MSCU Community Service Scholarship

The Mutual Security Credit Union Community Service Scholarships are awarded in honor of Berny Klaus and Joseph G.Fernandes. In honor of their commitment and service, six high school seniors or full-time undergraduate students attending an institution of higher learning will each receive a $1,000 scholarship.

Berny Klaus
In addition to giving 19 years of dedicated volunteer service to Mutual Security Credit Union, Berny Klaus, setting a high standard for exemplary community service also served as a longtime volunteer fireman with Newtown Hook and Ladder Co. No. 1, a Committee Chairman for Boy Scout Troop 370, and a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church.

Joseph G. Fernandes
Joe Fernandes served as a volunteer at Mutual Security Credit Union for over twenty-five years. In addition to his commitment and service to the credit union, Mr. Fernandes in his retirement dedicated his time to the community by working as a substitute teacher in the New Milford school system.


Scholarships will be awarded to students, who are in good academic standing, have demonstrated financial need, and have given selflessly of themselves to improve the overall state of affairs in their community. Students and/or parents must be a current member of the credit union. Selection of the winners will be made by the Mutual Security Credit Union Scholarship Committee. Evaluations are based on community service activities, grades, and essays.

 

Application Acceptance Period: February 1 – April 22, 2024

The Scholarship Committee Will Make A Selection and Notify Scholarship Recipients: May 2024
